Pictures of my Chevy ball joint fail repair job
- The wheel collapsed at a parking lot
- I heard a loud noise and the front drivers side dropped
- The ball joint had separated from the spindle
- The tie rod sleeve was bent
- The balljoint shaft threads were stripped
- The balljoint shaft nut had damaged the spine
- All relevant parts are removed except the tie rod end
- New lower control arm in place
- The coil spring seat was tied to stay in place during assembly
- I was not able to install the spring without the compression tool
- It was raining off and on during the project weekend
- The coil spring compression tool is situated inside the spring
- The spring is installed and the compressor tool is ready to be removed
- Drivers side inner tie rod and sleeve were replaced
- The damaged and the replacement spindles
- The replacement spindle cleaned up before installation
- The chock installed and sway bar connected
- The spinde is installed and the rotor will be cleaned and installed/
- Everything is back together except the wheel
- A string was set up parallell with the wheels to check the toe in alignment
- A string was set up parallell with the wheels to check the toe in alignment
- Distance from the rim to the string was measured at back and front of the hub (in the driving direction)
- The difference between the measurements on the drivers side should be same as on the unaltered passenger side
- Project is completed with a successful test drive
